James Dougherty serves as the Operations Director of New Hope CORPS, overseeing the agency’s programs, contracts, and fiscal operations while directing strategic planning and ensuring organizational compliance.

Since joining New Hope in 2017, James has played a key role in the agency’s growth—leading initiatives to expand and diversify funding across federal, state, local, and private sectors.

A graduate of Bucknell University with bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Economics (2006), James began his career as an institutional bond and derivatives trader at J.P. Morgan Securities in New York City. He later served as Vice President on J.P. Morgan’s Private Bank fixed income trading desk, advising high-net-worth clients on interest rate risk management. He also earned a Certificate in Financial Mathematics from NYU Stern School of Business in 2011.

In 2016, James transitioned from finance to the nonprofit sector to pursue a career dedicated to helping others. At New Hope, he has applied his analytical and strategic skills to strengthen the agency’s service continuum and competitiveness for limited grant funding in the fields of substance use and mental health.

James represents New Hope on several local boards and committees. He currently serves as Chair of the Medical Care Subcommittee and as a voting member of the Miami-Dade HIV/AIDS Partnership.

He is also pursuing a degree in Physician Assistant Studies and plans to practice medicine as a licensed Physician Assistant.
